34: Mike Popp's First Contribution to the Peace Puzzle!

Andy,

I have written a small letter to you. It is something I think that may help

you reach audiences slightly better. what i wrote is for you alone. I will

spend some time this weekend on a letter for your blog spot. I hope all is well

and am wondering where the fuck you might be, and where you are headed next. I

talked to marianna and she said she had squared everything up with you. Safest

travels and best luck. What you are doing many people doubt and question. I

myself have doubts as to your goal and methods of acheiving that goal, but what

i do not doubt, is your motivation to acheive this goal. out of all the people

that may doubt you, i feel they do so because you are willing to take a step

they only wish they could take. Maybe you don't have all the answers, i doubt

that anyone really does, but what you do have is drive and if you can inspire

the right people to use just some of their energy this world can hopefully

become a better place.

What you have set out to acheive is difficult and may drive you to the brink

of insanity. It is a task that you may never fully acheive, but that does not

mean you should ever give up. Your effort alone could start something that may

take generations to finally achieve. That is why is important that you continue

in your efforts and that you work with people in an efforts to change this

fucked up world. Knowledge is key and understanding of that knowledge is even

more important. heel veel success!

kind regards,

Mike

Dear Mr. Andy Luther Lord

What you are working for is something so great, that to achieve it, would be more than honorary. The task you have set out to complete is monumental and could take more than your lifetime to achieve. World peace is something more than just love, more than just cooperation, and more than just caring. World peace is something that needs to be completely internalized. It is something that can be strived for, but something that needs to exist because the entire world wants it to. And if not the entire world, then enough of the entire world to make no difference what the small minority desires. In order to achieve this goal many different types of people need to be reached. These people need to be presented with the necessary information in the right manner, for them. They need to be talked to in a way that they understand, and listened to at the same time. People are complex individuals as you have stated Andy, and as complex individuals they must be addressed in slightly complex ways that make it simple for them to get “the big picture.” Not everyone speaks the same language, and I’m not talking about English, Spanish, etc. what I am saying, is that people don’t understand everything in the same terms. This is why some people vote Bush and others do not. This is why some people hate other people and other people do not. People are products of their historical trajectory. This means that they act, react, and feel the way they do about what they do because of ALL of their previous experiences in life. This corresponds to their families income, their parents relationship, their relationships, the type of school they attended, the type of religion they may or may not have been raised according to, their height, their weight, and so on. This, however, does not mean that certain situations will always produce certain individuals; this is by no means the case because people react differently to the same situation. In short, it is people’s backgrounds and conditioned behavior that needs to be taken into account when they are to be addressed with something as great as working together for world peace.

My advice then, is to take the time to listen to each person you wish to help you achieve your goal. You cannot force someone to see things they way you want them to if you do not present them your case in a style they would understand. For example, when you explain peace you use terms familiar to you. You explain how an individual is like a cell in the human body. You use DNA as a metaphor for governmental systems, etc. etc. etc. You use a familiar language to make your point because what is familiar to you is easy to understand. In that same light, what is familiar to another person is easy for them to understand. As such, you must adapt your style and speech to each and every person you meet. One cannot merely preach to other about what they should and need to do. One must work with each individual on a personal lever. This is absolutely necessary because they need to internalize your ideas, internalize your plan, and internalize a unstopped love that will inevitably create peace. With that said, listening is just as, if not more important than speaking, in achieving your goal. Be able to listen to the people you want to help you. Listen, not just to what they say, but also to what they don’t say. Read between the lines and piece together a method of reaching that individual based on the way they speak to you. If they talk about cars a lot, explain that peace is a way of increasing horsepower and reducing fuel intake simultaneously. If they like animals explain it in those terms, and etc. etc. Listen while you preach and preach in a language that can be understood by the people listening to you. Listening will be a very important tool for your journey. Remember, listening is more then just hearing.
